Saint Francis picked up its second straight mercy rule win with a 11-1 six-inning victory over fourth-seeded Molokai in the quarterfinals of the DataHouse/HHSAA Division I state tournament at McKinley's Tiger Softball Stadium Thursday evening.
The Saints, the Interscholastic League of Honolulu representative. scored 11 unanswered runs after the opening inning to advance to Friday's semifinal game against KS-Hawaii, the top-seeded team and Big Island Interscholastic Federation champion. First pitch is slated for 2:15 p.m. at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
Kaena Keliinoi was 3-for-4 at the plate with a double and three runs scored to lead the Saint Francis offense. Hailey Matsumura, Joerdan Lovell, Kailee Mahelona, Sierrah Kupihea all drove in multiple runs to round out the top Saint Francis batters.
Mahelona was the pitcher of the record for the Saints. She scattered three hits in four innings of work before giving way to Kupihea in the fifth inning.
Cahlvrie Horner was charged with the loss for the Farmers. She allowed 14 hits, 10 runs and one walk in six innings of work.
