For the second straight year, 'Iolani has thrown a Division II monkey wrench into the Interscholastic League of Honolulu Division I football title chase.

The Raiders, ranked No. 9 in the ScoringLive-OC16 Power Rankings, stunned No. 5 Kamehameha, 13-6, Saturday night in the feature game of an ILH tripleheader at Aloha Stadium. 'Iolani improved to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in league play, while the defending Division I state champion Warriors fell to 2-3, 0-2 after their third straight loss.

The Raiders also upset Kamehameha, 20-17, last year to hand the Warriors their only defeat of the season.

"It feels good, it feels like all the hard work we put in over the summer and in practice is worth it," said 'Iolani senior cornerback Dylan Goto. "It's games like this that we'll always remember."

The pressure was on Goto and the rest of the Raiders' secondary in Saturday's closing seconds, as the Warriors advanced to a first-and-goal situation from the 9-yard line with 30 seconds remaining. But 'Iolani held on as Kamehameha threw four straight incomplete passes, the last one sailing over the intended receiver's head near the middle of the end zone with six seconds left.

The Warriors had marched 61 yards in four plays, with Christian Akana connecting with Charley Bollig IV on three passes for 54 yards.

"I thought, 'We worked so hard, we put in so much effort up to then,' " Goto said. "I thought, 'We cannot let the team down now.' I was dead tired, but those last plays show we have heart."

The Raiders started strong, with Andrew Okimura forcing a fumble after the opening onside kick and Joshua Conlan recovering at the Kamehameha 38. Seven plays later, sophomore quarterback Reece Foy threw a 7-yard touchdown pass to Bret Christman on third-and-4. Jordan Lee's extra point made it 7-0, and Lee added a 31-yard field goal to put 'Iolani up, 10-0, with 1:22 remaining in the first quarter.

Lee's 21-yard field goal with 14 seconds left in the half made it 13-0.

That's how it stayed until midway through the fourth quarter, when the Warriors finally scored on Akana's 2-yard TD pass to tight end Keoni Bush-Loo on third-and-goal with 5:23 remaining. The extra point attempt hit the left upright and bounced out, but Kamehameha forced a Raiders punt on the ensuing series and got the ball back with 1:34 left, starting the long drive to Raiders' 9.

The first-down pass was short to the left side, and Goto broke up a pass in the left corner on second down. The third down pass was caught out of bounds on the back right corner of the end zone. Akana scrambled on fourth down and tried to hit a receiver over the middle, but his pass was high and sailed through the back of the end zone.

"Those were bad calls on my part," Warriors coach David Stant said. "We had our chances, but we would shoot ourselves in the foot with mistakes."
