EWA BEACH — Michelle Vasquez's two free throws with 17.4 left in regulation helped Radford outlast host Campbell, 44-42 to remain unbeaten in league play Friday night.

The Rams, ranked tenth in the ScoringLive/Hawaiian Electric Girls Basketball Power Rankings, used a 16-10 fourth quarter to improve to 8-0 atop the Oahu Interscholastic Association Division I West standings.

The Sabers held a one-point lead with 25.2 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter with possession before Vasquez picked off a lazy Campbell pass and drew a pair of foul shots. She knocked in both attempts to give Radford the lead for good, 43-42.

Campbell was handed its second straight loss and dropped to 5-3 in league play.

"Tonight Campbell took it right at us," said Radford coach Charles Chong. "I knew that they were a very feisty team. They were very aggressive and they dared you to stop them. We're lucky we got out of this building with a win. It was a fun game."

Vasquez's two foul shots highlighted the Rams' strong shooting performance at the charity stripe. Radford went 17-for-27 at the free throw line while Campbell only converted on five of its 17 free throw attempts.

"They're a good free throw shooting team," Campbell coach Summer Aona said on the Rams. "We practice it everyday, but it's one of our weak spots."

To counteract their free throw woes, the Sabers dominated the offensive glass and scored on multiple second chance opportunities. Jasianna Ah Nee led the charge with a season-high 14 points, eight of which came on putbacks in the third quarter.

"Hand it to Campbell, they were in the right place at the right time," said Chong. "They had good hands and they put a lot of shots back in. We got a win, but we have to go back and fix that weak link in our chain."

The Rams had multiple contributors in their victory. The team's leading scorer, Kyle Johnson, managed a team-high 12 points despite foul trouble. Jayde Johnson scored eight points and Natalie Jackson and Puni Seei had seven points each. Jackson scored six quick points in the first quarter and Seei was aggressive in the second half and got to the line eight times.

"I had to put it aside and let my teammates work," Johnson, an All-Hawaii Division II second-team selection with Aiea a year ago, said about playing with foul trouble. "I have full faith in them and they got my back. My team fought hard and we came out with the win."

Although her team was unable to complete the upset, Aona was pleased with her team's efforts. It is also worth noting that leading scorer Gieani Balino shot 1-for-12 from the field and senior Cydney Curran was on an official recruiting visit for softball.

"I just want to say I'm super proud of our girls," she said. "I'm really excited because I think we're at the right place at the right time. To be towards the end of the season and coming along, getting more used to each other. I think they played a phenomenal game and both teams played their hearts out tonight."

Freshman post Kimberlee Ung knocked down two triples and finished with nine points and Ricka Jackson added eight points for the Sabers.
