Iolani played host to Waianae in a controlled scrimmage at Kozuki Stadium on the campus of Iolani School.
Raiders' quarterbacks combined to complete a trio of touchdown passes in the early going for the home team, and the defense stepped up as well stopping Waianae at the five yard line to keep the Seariders off the board early.
The visiting Seariders relied heavily upon an option-read based rushing attack, and their offensive line was routinely able to create enough space to help steadily move the chains. As for the passing game, Waianae didn't air the ball out very often, and didn't find much success throwing the ball when they did.
Waianae eventually found the end zone in the second half on thanks to its run game, plunging in for one score after a long drive and scoring another off a long run.
Sophomore Tai-John Mizutani showed some promise at quarterback for Iolani, particuarly in the waning moments of the scrimmage, connecting with a reciever for a long pass play down the sideline, and a textbook progression read two plays later, where he found a open teammate in the left flats for a completion that helped keep the chains moving.
Both teams begin their respective seasons next week, with Waianae playing host to Kamehameha on Friday and Iolani hosting Kamehameha-Maui in the nightcap of the Father Bray Classic at Hawaiian Airlines Field at Aloha Stadium.
