Kamehameha boys, Kaiser girls lead after Day 1


 



Kamehameha boys and Kaiser girls lead after the first day of competition at the Island Movers/HHSAA Track and Field State Championships held at War Memorial Stadium.

In the only two finals held on Day 1, Kayson Smith-Bejgrowicz of Kamehameha won the high jump with a mark of 6 feet 6 inches and Kaiser's Celine Lum claimed a state title in the pole vault with a mark of 11-06.00.

No state marks fell in preliminaries, Moanalua's Kathleen Funcheon was the class of the 100 meter field in the preliminaries, posting a wind-aided mark of 12.03 and was also the top qualifier in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.73.

In the boys' 100 meter dash, Bailey Kaopuiki of Baldwin also ran well, posting a 10.84 mark to pace the field, with Dylan Kane (Kamehameha-Kapalama) and Keoni-Kordell Makekau (Iolani) not far off at 10.90.

Competition concludes tomorrow with field events starting at 2:30 p.m., and track events to follow at 5:30 p.m.
