HAWAI'I KAI - The Bulldogs have come a long way since going winless the previous season.

Waialua was in control for most of the game and defeated Anuenue for the final score of 37-8 at Kaiser Stadium on Saturday night. The win improved the Bulldogs' record to 3-5 overall and 3-4 in the OIA White division. Na Koa's record dropped to 0-8 and 0-7.

"I think we played good and worked together," said senior Bulldog Xavier Repollo. "Our team came together tonight and we worked hard for that win."

Repollo led the team in scoring and caught a touchdown pass and ran one in from three yards out. He finished with 79 yards rushing and three yards receiving.

Waialua got off to a hot start on their opening drive by employing a no-huddle offense. Their 11-play drive ended with a three yard touchdown connection between Taleon Lele and Repollo on fourth and goal. The Bulldogs' opening drive covered 75 yards and took off four minutes and five seconds off the game clock.

Anuenue's defense prevented Waialua from scoring any more points in the first quarter, but the flood gates were opened in the second with the Bulldogs getting scores from all facets of the game.

Jacob Casey scored on the first play of the second quarter to put Waialua up by two scores. Na Koa's next drive ended in a Bulldog defensive touchdown when linebacker Tala Talauega stripped ball carrier Keli-Nahaku Kainoa for a 19-yard scoop and score.

The next Anuenue drive didn't end well either as Bulldog defensive lineman Stanton Nahooikaika recovered a loose ball to set up Waialua's next scoring drive. However, Na Koa atoned for the turnover by forcing a 27-yard field goal from Thomas Pule to give the visitors a 24-0 lead.

Na Koa turned it over again on their next drive when defensive back Mila Lele picked off Anuenue quarterback Kimo Romena to set up Waialua's last touchdown of the half. Repollo proved he was clutch again when he took a reversal three yards into pay dirt on another fourth and goal situation. Pule's PAT was good and the Bulldogs had a 31-0 lead heading into the break.

Taleon Lele scored on a two yard touchdown run late in the third quarter to put the game into running clock with two minutes and 46 seconds remaining in the period.

The mercy rule didn't stop Na Koa's spirits as they added a late touchdown in the last minute of regulation to prevent the shutout. Kona Kelekolio found a wide open AJ Grace-Kekawa for a 36-yard touchdown pass play. Kaleo Lindsey ran in the extra point for the final score of 37-8.

Despite not being eligible for the postseason, Waialua still has a chance to finish the regular season with a 0.500 record. A win over Kalani next week will give the Bulldogs a 4-4 OIA White record, a big improvement from their 2012 season record of 0-8.

"I told the kids keep your head up," said Waialua coach Lincoln Barit. "They know we're not going to make the playoffs but we always tell them to finish strong."
