Baldwin seeded first in Division I state baseball tournament


Maui Interscholastic League champion Baldwin has been awarded the top seed for the Wally Yonamine Foundation Division I state baseball tournament, which will be played at Maui's Iron Maehara Stadium.

Interscholastic League of Honolulu champion Mid-Pacific Institute is seeded second, followed by O'ahu Interscholastic Association Red champion Campbell and Big Island Interscholastic Federation champion Hilo.

The 12-team tournament runs Wednesday through Saturday.

In opening round games Wednesday, Mililani will play Waipahu at 10 a.m., defending state champion Waiakea will play Leilehua at 1 p.m., 'Iolani will face Kailua at 4 p.m. and Maui will take on Pearl City at 7 p.m.

In Thursday's quarterfinals, fourth-seeded Hilo will play at 11:30 a.m. against the winner of 'Iolani-Kailua; second-seeded MPI will play at 2 p.m. against the winner of Waiakea-Leilehua, third-seeded Campbell will play at 4:30 p.m. against the winner of Maui-Pearl City, and top-seeded Baldwin will play at 7 p.m. against the winner of Mililani-Waipahu.
