The showdown of the best in the OIA Red West will be decided with one last match out East.

Kapolei's Vineal Singh knocked home the only goal of the game in the seventh minute to lift the Hurricanes to a 1-0 win and a trip back to the OIA Red title game Friday to face OIA Western division rival Mililani in a battle of unbeatens.

Singh took the ball just inside the box and manuevered his way past his defender to give him an opportunity, which he kicked through the back of the net for the game's only score.

"I just turned it around the defender and took the shot cause I knew the ground was pretty bumpy." said Singh of his scoring play. "So I was just hoping the goalie would be stuck so I could get the goal."

The quick score by the Hurricanes was an important one, as it established an all-important margin in less-than-favorable conditions at a rain-soaked Kaiser Stadium.

"We told ourselves whether the conditions are good or not we're still opening it up, we play wide, east to west, circulate the ball." said Kapolei head coach Ryan Lau. "Regardless of the conditions you still have to play your game, and not get caught up in it (the field condition)."

Through both halves of play, Kapolei consistently stayed on the offensive, sometimes a bit too agressively, as two prime chances, one that resulted in a goal, were called off due to players being offsides for the Hurricanes.

Also standing in the way of the Kapolei offensive attack was the play of Pearl City goalkeeper Jared Louis, who weathered the onslaught with a number of key saves to help keep Pearl City in it.

"Just kept my head in it," said Louis of his performance. "Tried to calm our team down. Just tried to keep on going."

The play of Louis, and the Pearl City as a unit defensively, held the Hurricanes to just a single goal despite numerous chances, and paved the way for a last gasp attempt in the 81st minute, as Sean Barker launched a clean shot from just outside the penalty box that navigated its way through traffic with some pace. But a key stop by the Kapolei keeper ended the threat, and the final whistle blew just seconds after.

Lau was pleased with the effort of his players, especially given the lineup changes that were necessary due to injury.

"We were happy that they executed, because we had to make a couple lineup adjustments tonight." said Lau. "We were without our captain Brandon Begonia, so we tweaked some of our guys in the back and in the midfield."

Begonia, the starting sweeper for the Hurricanes, will also sit out Friday's final against the Trojans, who rolled past Campbell, 5-1, to set up yet another showdown with a league title on the line.

"I'd say this is the fifth or sixth time playing them (Mililani) in the finals." said Lau. "We have to come out and play our game. Obviously at this stage both teams played well the first time. It comes to down to we got to limit their chances and when it comes to ours we got to make the most of them."
