Don't let her calm demeanor on the court fool you.

Iolani's Lily Wahinekapu has a killer instinct.

The Raiders' junior guard earned top honors in the 2020 All-Hawaii Division I Girls Basketball team after helping Iolani repeat as state champions in early February.

With great finishing moves around the rim and a consistent 3-point shot, Wahinekapu averaged 16 points per game throughout league play and the postseason. Her intensity on the offensive side of the court was matched by her tenacity as an on-ball defender, making her the most well-rounded player in the state this season.

"She can score in many different ways and her defense is excellent. She utilizes her teammates well, but is willing to make the big play when she has to," said Maryknoll coach Chico Furtado.

In addition to her athletic abilities, Wahinekapu had the mindset to perform no matter the circumstance.

"I would say she's like a silent killer," said Kahuku coach Latoya Wily. "I never really see her with any negative expression, she just keeps playing. She's somebody that has great basketball IQ. She can play on both sides of the floor. She's never selfish. I never see any kind of worry or fear in her eyes. She's that player that anybody would love to have on their team, whether it's teammates or coaches."

Furtado also praised Wahinekapu's ability to stay composed.

"Lily was the definite leader of that Iolani team. I was most impressed with her patience. She does not rush her game or get frazzled," Furtado said.

Iolani coach Dean Young earned coach of the honors for leading the Raiders to another state title.

Young's squad was also the top-ranked team in the Hawaiian Electric Girls Basketball Power Rankings from start to finish.
