Tsunami warning affects games on Big Island, Maui

The Big Island Interscholastic Federation Division I football championship between Hilo and Kealakehe in Kailua-Kona was suspended with just under a minute left before halftime Saturday night, the Hawaii Tribune-Herald reported online.

The Waveriders were leading 20-14. The game will resume either next Friday or Saturday, Kealakehe athletic director Mike Hernandez said, the T-H reported.

The winner advances to the Division I state tournament.

Also, affected by the tsunami warning, which was generated by a 7.7 magnitude earthquate off of Canada, cut short Baldwin's 21-0 win against King Kekaulike at War Memorial Stadium in Wailuku. The game was declared official at halftime, The Maui News reported.

The warning came at about 7 p.m.
