Tom-Millare leads way as Pac-Five edges Damien, 18-16

HALAWA - Keoni Tom-Millare ran for two touchdowns and threw another score to rally Pac-Five to an 18-16 win over Damien in an Interscholastic League of Honolulu game at Hawaiian Airlines Field at Aloha Stadium Friday night.

The Wolf Pack kept their ILH Division II title hopes alive with the win and improved to 3-6 overall and 2-4 in league play. The Monarchs, who fell to 3-6 and 0-6, are eliminated from postseason contention.

Pac-Five is now one-half game behind league-leader Iolani, who is idle this week.

The Wolf Pack totaled 456 yards of total offense, including 262 rushing yards and 20 first downs. Tom-Millare carried 25 times for 227 yards, and scored on 3- and 1-yard runs. He also took most of the snaps at quarterback and threw for 156 yards on 7-of-15 passing. He threw an 80-yard touchdown pass to Justin Layco on the first play from scrimmage and was intercepted once.

Damien, which was held to 203 yards of total offense, tied it at 6 in the first quarter on a 36-yard interception return by Kanai Picanco.

Pac-Five reclaimed the lead with six minutes and 20 seconds left in the first quarter on a 3-yard Tom-Millare run, but the Monarchs knotted it with a Syles Choy 6-yard run and took a 13-12 lead on the ensuing extra point by Lyle Alloy-Glover.

Tom-Millare put his team back ahead for good just before halftime on a 1-yard run to make the Wolf Pack, 18-13.

Alloy-Glover closed out the scoring with a 29-yard field goal early in the third quarter.

Damien, which picked up just 73 offensive yards after halftime, drove to their own 42-yard line in the closing seconds, but turned it over on downs and Pac-Five ran out the clock.

Kyle Sato finished with 74 rushing yards on 14 carries for the Monarchs, who have lost six straight since a 3-0 start to the season.

It was the second time the teams played this year. Pac-Five also won the previous matchup on Sept. 14, when Tom-Millare accounted for four touchdowns in a 40-12 Wolf Pack victory.

Iolani (5-3, 2-3) hosts Pac-Five at Kozuki Stadium on Oct. 27.
