Hilo holds on to advance over Moanalua, 50-45

Jalen Carvalho hit a three-pointer with just over 10 seconds left in regulation to lift Hilo to a 50-45 win over Moanalua in opening round play at the Hawaiian Airlines/HHSAA Boys Basketball Championships at McKinley's Student Body Gymnasium,

The Vikings led 30-16 at the break and by as many as 18 points early in the third, but Na Menehune would mount a comeback, capped by Kahanu Puulei-Auld's three-pointer from the top of the arc to tie the game at 43-all with just under 2:30 to play in regulation.

Puulei-Auld had 18 points to lead Moanalua.

Hilo will take on top-seeded Punahou in the 7 p.m. quarterfinals tomorrow at McKinley.


Leilehua 61, Kapolei 43

Mules had three players score in double figures, led by Jeremiah Andrade's 17 points, as Leilehua coasted to a 61-43 win over Kapolei to advance to the Division I quarterfinals.

Troy Ross had 11 points and Cody Halvorson added 10 for Leilehua, who led 26-16 at the intermission and 46-30 after three periods.

Hurricanes' forward Christopher Dillard had 17 points in the loss.
