Kamehameha Schools held an opening ceremony for Koai'a, a new physical education/athletics complex recently completed on its Kapalama campus.

Koai'a was named after the senior trainer and instructor of Kekuhaupi'o, Kamehameha 'Ekahi's famous warrior for whom the campus' main gymnasium is named after.

Koai'a is situated between the Kunuiakea field and the Kalaniopu'u swimming pool on the
Kapalama Campus, and is the first facility to be completed under the Ke Kupu Malamalama project, one part of a master plan which will provide students, faculty and other campus users with facilities that support and rnimprove access to educational programs and services.

The building includes offices and classrooms for both PE and Athletics, boys and girls locker rooms, where every student will have their own locker, equipment rooms and a large weight room and training room.
