DeForest Buckner scored a game-high 20 points and Malik Johnson added 12 points last night as Punahou held off visiting Kamehameha, 59-57, in Interscholastic League of Honolulu boys basketball action.
The Buffanblu improved to 9-1 in league play, while the Warriors fell to 6-4.
Kamehameha led, 17-15, after one period but Punahou overtook the Warriors in the second quarter to grab a 35-31 halftime lead. The Buffanblu clung to a 45-43 advantage entering the fourth and though Kamehameha was able to tie it a couple times, Punahou immediately answered and held on for the victory as the Warriors could only manage a desperation shot that was way off the mark in the closing seconds.
Dyrbe Enos and Taylor Taliulu each scored 17 points to lead Kamehameha.
