Kalaheo, Kailua claim titles at OIA Championship Regatta


Kailua won the girls division, while Kalaheo claimed both boys and mixed titles at the OIA Championship Regatta held at Ke'ehi Lagoon.

The Surfriders girls squad outdistanced second-place Kalaheo by more than 18 seconds to claim the victory, followed by Kapolei, Leilehua, Kalani and Wai'anae.

In the boys regatta, Kalaheo had a winning time 7.52.74, besting Kailua by just over three seconds. Roosevelt, Kaiser, Wai'anae, Nanakuli and Leilehua rounded out the top six finishers for the boys.

Kalaheo's mixed squad took home the title by more than 6 seconds over Kailua, followed by Roosevelt, McKinley, Nanakuli, Moanalua and Castle.

The OIA sends six girls crews, and seven in the boys and mixed categories to the First Hawaiian Bank/HHSAA Canoe Paddling Championships in Hilo on Feb. 3.
