OIA girls basketball playoffs begin tonight


The O'ahu Interscholastic Association girls basketball playoffs will begin Jan. 19 for both the Red and White Conferences.

In the Red, Western Division No. 5 seed 'Aiea (5-5) will travel to East No. 4 Roosevelt (7-4), East No. 5 Farrington (7-4) visits West No. 4 Kapolei (7-3), East No. 6 Moanalua (6-5) is at West No. 3 Leilehua (8-2) and West No. 6 Campbell (3-7) will be at East No. 3 Kahuku (9-2).

All games are scheduled for 6 p.m.

The losers will be eliminated, and the winners will advance to the Jan. 20 second round. East champion Kaimuki (11-0) will host the winner of Farrington-Kapolei, West champ Mililani (10-0) will host the 'Aiea-Roosevelt winner, East runner-up Kaiser (10-1) will host the Leilehua-Moanalua winner and West runner-up Pearl City (9-1) will host the Campbell-Kahuku winner.

All second round games also will be at 6 p.m., with the winners advancing to the Jan. 24 quarterfinals and the losers moving to a loser's bracket in the modified double-elimination format.

The top six teams will qualify for a Division I state tournament berth.

The White Conference playoffs also begin Jan. 19 with East No. 3 Kailua (2-9) at West runner-up Wai'anae (3-7) and West No. 3 Nanakuli (3-7) at East runner-up Kalani (4-7).

Both games are set for 6 p.m.

The losers are eliminated, while the winners advance to the Jan. 20 quarterfinals. The Kailua-Wai'anae winner will travel to East champion McKinley (6-5), and the Kalani-Nankuli winner will visit West champion Radford (6-4).

Both quarterfinal games also are set for 6 p.m.

The winners will advance to the Jan. 26 semifinals, while the loser will play in an elimination game that night.

The top three teams will advance to the Division II state tournament.
