Farrington improved to 3-1 in the OIA Eastern Division, while Na Menehune fell to 2-2. Although the Govs are in the White (Division II) Conference and Moanalua is in the Red (DI), the game counts for both in the East standings.

"The good news is, we won't have to beat them to get a state tournament berth," Na Menehune coach Greg Tacon said. "I'm glad we won't have to play them again this year."

Farrington definitely showed it is capable of standing in Moanalua's way, overcoming a 17-11 first-quarter deficit to close it to 28-25 by halftime and then 33-31 entering the fourth period before taking control in the final three minutes.

Kleman put the Govs ahead for good at 37-35 with a baseline jumper from the left side with 2:59 remaining, and Farrington sank 11 of 12 free throws down the stretch to seal the win. It was the Governors' third straight victory after opening the regular season with a 54-43 loss at Kalani.

"Kalani is a very good team and they beat us, but it was a wake-up call for us," Farrington coach Allan Silva said. "We learned that we have to play better and play together."

Na Menehune finished the first quarter with a 7-1 run capped by Eliet Donley's buzzer-beating 3-pointer. They then went up, 20-13, on Kahanu Pu'ulei-Auld's baseline jumper two minutes into the second, but the Govs responded with an 11-4 run punctuated by a putback by Kleman that tied it at 24-24.

Donley's jumper with 38 seconds left in the half put Moanalua ahead, 28-25, heading into the break, but Na Menehune scored only five points in the third period and a 3-pointer by Kleman closed it to 33-31 heading into the fourth.

"We had good shots in the second half, but we didn't knock them down," Tacon said. "And in a close game, we gotta hold onto the ball on every possession -- we lost a couple when we had good opportunities."

Viane Vaina opened the final quarter with a layup and Kleman's slam dunk off a drive from the left side with five minutes remaining gave Farrington a 35-33 lead. Alex Hutson tied it again at 35-35 with a free throw two minutes later, but Kleman swished two free throws with 2:54 left to put the Governors ahead for good as Moanalua did not score again until Kreig Kepa's 3-pointer with 39 seconds remaining.

By that time, Farrington was ahead, 48-40.

Vaina added 10 points for Farrington, all but one coming in the second half.
