Campbell cheerleaders win national title in Las Vegas

'EWA BEACH - Campbell High's varsity and junior varsity cheerleaders won national titles at the American Grand Cheer Organization meet in Las Vegas in December.

The varsity won the non-tumbling division. The Sabers also won the JV division.

The Sabers also won the Sportsmanship Award out of more than 100 teams. The award is voted for by peers, the AGCO and the MGM Hotel & Casino staff. The meet was held at the Las Vegas resort.

The varsity cheerleaders are: Rustean Cullen-Utu, Chantelle Ellazar, Marissa DeCarlo, Rheyann Quisano, Shayna Lopes, Chanel De Rego, Asia Taylor, Brianna Furukawa, Raven Parado, Kalena Rodriguez, Corinna Pa, Juville Dela Cruz, Roseanne Moss, Yuceli "Ashanti" Pereira, Sarah Mae Ibarra and alternate Cree Johnson.

The JV cheerleader champions are: Chanel Aglipay, Aisha Schutte, Kadie Ho'opai, Sydney Thompson, Theresa-Jeanne Ramos, Aleisha Ibarra, Meshia Tupinio, Brandi Yoshida, Brieann Mann and alternate Liann Arakaki.

The cheerleaders' training includes weightlifting, gymnastics, stunts, aerobics and other drills to build strength, according to coaches Wendy Kahoaka-Wright and Violetta Wright.
