Raiders stave off Owls, 52-36

Trevyn Tulonghari and Josiah Sukumaran each scored 13 points last night to help 'Iolani hold off pesky Mid-Pacific, 52-36, in Interscholastic League of Honolulu boys basketball action.

Reid Saito added 12 points as the Raiders improved to 3-0 in the ILH heading into tomorrow's showdown at Kamehameha (3-1).

'Iolani jumped out to a 9-3 lead last night before the visiting Owls (2-3) cut it to 13-9 late in the first period. Sukumaran's tip-in at the buzzer made it 15-9 and the Raiders stretched the lead to 28-18 by halftime.

MPI hung tough, however, and closed it to 39-32 on Patrick Matthews' short jumper with 42 seconds remaining in the third period. Senior post Kainoa Scheer then hit a bank shot 17 seconds later to put 'Iolani ahead, 41-32, heading into the fourth.

Adam Ching's short jumper 12 seconds into the fourth quarter started the Raiders on an 11-2 run to help seal the victory.

Patrick Matthews led the Owls with 14 points.
