WAIPI'O - Leilehua dominated in all aspects.
Senior Margarito Martinez won his second straight league title and helped his Leilehua boys team win its sixth straight team title at Saturday afternoon's O'ahu Interscholastic Association cross country championships at Patsy T. Mink Central O'ahu Regional Park.
Martinez, the defending state champion, won in 15 minutes, 58.17 seconds on the hilly, 3-mile course that will host Thursday's state championship. Martinez was a minute faster than his nearest competitors, who happened to be his teammates.
Elliot Estrada was second in 17:05.77 and Dylan Martinez, Margarito's younger brother, was third in 17:23.64. Branden Miya placed seventh (17:49.57) and Micah Velasco finished ninth (17:54.42) as the Mules won with 21 points.
"We finished 1-2-3 which I'm really happy about," said Margarito, a senior. "I mostly care about the team championship more than anything. My brother is looking great. He's coming up and looking better than when I was in my sophomore year. Elliot is really strong and they're pushing each other. Micah and Branden are looking really solid right now and I hope we can carry it on (to states)."
Mililani won its third straight girls team title after finishing with a meet-low 63 points. Kimberly Pugliese finished second in 20:41.16 and Courtney Garner placed sixth in 21:21.31. Also scoring points for the Trojans were Taylor Sinn (14th, 22:14.74), Taylor Suwa (18th, 22:45.85) and Jaclyn Knaus (29th, 23:33.24).
Moanalua's Sophie Curatilo won the girls 3-mile race in 20:20.92. She passed race leader Pugliese with a half-mile remaining in the race.
