MILILANI — Taimane Amisone and Kapolei left no doubt Saturday night. 

Amisone, a senior quarterback, passed for 464 yards and eight touchdowns as Kapolei overwhelmed Maryknoll, 77-19, in the title game of the Hawaii Dental Service/HHSAA Division II Girls Flag Football State Championships.  

The unseeded Hurricanes (15-1) scored early and often at the expense of the fourth-seeded Spartans (10-2) before a crowd of about 600 fans at Mililani's John Kauinana Stadium. 

Kapolei amassed 578 yards of total offense and capped 12 of their 15 drives with touchdowns. Amisone completed 37 of her 44 pass attempts and was not intercepted. She was sacked just once. Amisone completed passes to six different receivers and four of them caught at least one touchdown pass. 

Sophomore receivers Bayle Brooks (13 receptions for 217 yards, three TDs) and Kaylyce Kauwe (11 for 139, 3 TDs) each had career nights. Brooks caught scoring passes for 15, 13 and 59 yards — all in the first half — while Kauwe was on the receiving end of TD passes for 6, 3 and 11 yards. 

Ziah-Lei Mullen-Cummings pulled down one touchdown catch in each half and Kaylyn Rae Pascual caught a 15-yard TD pass from Amisone early in the fourth quarter. 

Kaena Kamohalii opened the scoring with a 1-yard TD run to cap Kapolei's first possession. Amisone and Infinitiz Galeano-Soares also ran in scores for the ‘Canes, who tallied 26 first downs and did not turn the ball over. 

Kapolei converted on 10 of its 12 red-zone opportunities and was 5 of 6 on third downs. It did not record a punt all game. 

Meanwhile, Maryknoll was just 1 of 11 on third downs and 0 for 4 on fourth downs. 

Quarterback Puaena Herrington threw for 285 yards on 21-of-40 passing. All three of her touchdown passes were to Zoe Silva, who finished with 11 catches for 230 yards. Aila also led the Spartans defensively with 11 flag pulls. 

Aydrianah Kam recorded three of Kapolei's five sacks of Herrington. Brooklyn Bell came up with the lone interception of the night, which the ‘Canes parlayed into a Galeano-Soares' 34-yard touchdown run that stretched her team's lead to 71-19 with 7:40 left to play. 

Maryknoll finished with 261 yards of total offense and 14 total first downs. 

Kapolei led at halftime, 38-7. 

The Spartans saw their string of six consecutive wins come to an end, while the Hurricanes reeled off their fourth win in as many days since they lost to Kalaheo in the OIA title game by a score of 28-25 on May 5. 

Amisone, who was selected as the tournament's most outstanding player, completed the season with 4,681 passing yards and a completion percentage of 75.8 percent. She also ran for 1,012 yards and factored into 88 total touchdowns, including 74 passing. Amisone was intercepted nine times on the year.  

Amisone finished as the state leader in both passing and rushing yards, while the duo of Kauwe (96 receptions for 1,330 yards, 22 TDs) and Brooks (92 for 1,179, 15) finished second and third, respectively, in the state in receiving yards.
