Kikuchi's golden goal in 2OT lifts Kalani past Campbell, into first OIA final since 2023

The title match of the Oahu Interscholastic Association Division I Boys Soccer tournament will feature two No. 1 seeds in Mililani and Kalani.

The Trojans (11-1) and Falcons (9-1-2) are set to meet Saturday, 7 p.m. at Kapolei's Alvin Nagasako Sports Complex.

Kalani, the top seed out of the East, needed two overtimes to turn back West No. 2 seed Campbell, the No. 4 team in the ScoringLive Power Rankings, by a score of 3-2 in double overtime in the late semifinal.

Toranosuke Kikuchi opened the scoring with a goal just 16 minutes in. The senior, a Third Team All-Hawaii selection a year ago, later put away the game winner in the 98th minute to help the Falcons move on to the title match.

Kalani, which is ranked ninth in the SL Power Rankings this week, held a 1-0 lead at halftime, but Campbell equalized just two minutes into the second half with Jonah Poepoe goal.

The Sabers (9-2-1) briefly took the lead when Poepoe put away a second goal in the 64th minute. However, Davian-Fox McElfresh evened the match with his goal for Kalani just six minutes later.

The score remained tied at two through the end of regulation and after the first 10-minute overtime.

In the earlier semifinal at Kapolei on Thursday, No. 5 Mililani — the No. 1 seed out of the Western Division, scored a pair of goals in a three-minute stretch early in the second half en route to a 2-0 win over the unranked Hurricanes.

After a scoreless first half, Elijah Kuni broke the seal with his goal in the 49th minute that was set-up by a corner kick. It was the second goal scored against Kapolei this season by Kuni, the reigning All-Hawaii Defensive Player of the Year; He also found the back of the net in a 4-0 win over the ‘Canes back on Dec. 19.

Mikah Sampaga doubled up the Trojans' lead in the 52nd minute.

Mililani swept all three meetings against Kapolei this season and will take a six-match winning streak into Saturday's title game.

The Trojans will be playing for their fifth straight OIA Division I championship and 21st overall.

The Falcons are seeking their third league crown and first since 2018. It is their first trip to the league final since 2023, when thry lost to Mililani, 2-0.

The Hurricanes (5-4-4), the No. 3 seed out of the West, will play Campbell Friday, 7 p.m. at Pearl City's Bino Neves Stadium for third place.

The Sabers were seeking a third consecutive apperance in the championship match.

Mililani and Kalani will follow the D2 title game between Waipahu (7-1-1) and Kahuku (9-0), which kicks off at 5 p.m. Saturday at Kapolei.
