No. 1 Kahuku overwhelms No. 5 Mililani to secure top seed in playoffs

Top-ranked Kahuku scored early and often en route to a 45-20 thumping of No. 5 Mililani at Carleton E. Weimer Field Friday night.

The Red Raiders put forth a dominating performance to improve to 6-3 overall and 4-0 in league play to lock up the No. 1 seed in the Oahu Interscholastic Association Open Division playoffs.

The Trojans saw their three-game win streak come to an end and fell to 6-2 overall and 3-1 in league games.

Kahuku built a 35-0 lead by halftime and scored in all three phases over the course of the game.

Teave Crawford's 42-yard interception return for touchdown gave the Red Raiders a 14-0 lead late in the first quarter. Madden Soliai took back the opening kickoff of the second half for a 93-yard return for touchdown that stretched his team's lead to 42-0.

Quarterback Troy Mariteragi threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to Christian Sanford-Tupuola and also ran in a 1-yard touchdown that were both part of a 21-point second quarter.

Toa Sam opened the scoring with his 60-yard TD run midway through the first quarter.

Mililani got on the board with a 51-yard scoring strike from Dallas Carter to Damen Nakagawa. Carter also found Ashton Grace for an 11-yard TD pass to close out the scoring in the final minutes.

The Trojans will host No. 3 Kapolei Saturday, while the Red Raiders will resume a suspended game against No. 6 Campbell that same evening.
