Iolani punches ticket to states with shutout win over Maryknoll

For the fourth consectuive year, Iolani is heading to the postseason.

The Raiders broke an early stalemate with a four run outburst in the fourth inning, en route to an 8-0 win over Maryknoll, securing a state berth in the process.

Chase Thompson had an RBI triple to hit safely in his seventh straight game, and also scored twice, while Kasyn Amazaki (2 for 2, run, 2 RBI) and Ethan Akagi (2 for 3, run, RBI) both collected a pair of hits to pace Iolani offensively.

Noah Chong pitched 4 2/3 strong innings, allowing no runs on five hits, striking out two and walking none, and Charlie Ushijima pitched 2 2/3 innings of no-hit baseball to close things out.

The Spartans started off red hot in the ILH postseason, knocking off both Saint Louis and the Raiders in succession, but dropped a 3-2 decision to Kamehameha on April 23 prior to todayʻs season ending defeat.

Chase Hokama finished the afternoon with a 2 for 3 day at the plate and also put in 4 innings of work on the mound, allowing four runs on three hits as the starter.

Iolani will face off with Kamehameha for the ILH double elimination tournament title on April 28 at CORP, with first pitch set for 3:30 p.m.
