Kaiser’s Elliana Schiffner, right, takes a shot at goal pass Roosevelt’s Alisa Lee in the third quarter at K. Mark Takai Veterans Memorial Aquatic Center. CJ Caraang | SLKaiser kept its unbeaten season intact but needed overtime to take care of Roosevelt, 10-8, in a closely contested contest between perennial rivals.
Elliana Schiffner scored her match high sixth goal in the early moments of the overtime to push the Cougars ahead and Alyssa Tong added an insurance score at the 2:38 mark of the extra frame to help seal the win over the Rough Riders.
Roosevelt trailed 8-5 in the final period of regulation, but clawed back down the stretch with two goals in about 1:20 of game time from Kim Cassens before getting the equalizing score with just 42 seconds left by Kanoe Wong.
Cassens scored three of her team-leading five goals in the fourth period alone, and her output along with Wong's three scores accounted for all of the offense for the Rough Riders.
Kaiser got two scores, one in each half, from Maile Judd, and Kiley Freitas added a goal in the first half to account for the Cougars' goal tally.
With Roosevelt's loss, only Kaiser and Kahuku remain without a loss atop of the OIA water polo standings, and will face off against each other on Apr. 16.
