Kamehameha stifles Punahou to notch league opening win

Kamehameha only scored in the opening inning, but those three runs proved to be enough to back starter Grayson Osbun and a trio of relievers who combined on an eventual two-hit shutout of Punahou.

Osbun pitched five innings of no-hit baseball, striking out eight and walking none, while Kainoa Kaneshiro pitched the final 1 2/3 innings to earn the save.

The Warriors made their move in the first inning with two runners aboard with two outs, as Kingston Lee singled to center to score both Kiai Sylvester and Dillon Andres, and Logan Sanchez's added a base knock of his own to score Lee.

Kamehameha would only get three more hits in the final five innings, as the tandem of Micah Shintaku and Adian Okano kept the Warriors off the board and the Buffanblu within sriking distance.

The Buffanblu's best chances came in the first and again in the seventh. In the opening frame, Punahou had runners on 1st and 2nd with just one out, but Osbun was able to induce an inning ending double play to snuff the threat.

Then in the seventh, a leadoff single by Jake Hiromoto nearly paid dividends as a dropped third strike with two outs put runners on 2nd and 3rd for Punahou, and the next batter was hit by pitch to load the bases. Kaneshiro came up clutch, however, ending the game on a called third strike.

Lee was 1 for 3 with a pair of runs driven in to lead all batters.
