Campbell rallies in second half to hand Kapolei first league loss

A week removed from its first league loss on the road to Nanakuli, Campbell got back into the win column with a come-from-behind 60-53 win over Kapolei.

Campbell's Elijah Pontin led all scorers with 18 points, 11 of them coming in the first half that helped keep the home team within striking distance.

The victory created a logjam of one-loss teams in the OIA West standings, and with the Sabers, Hurricanes and Trojans all set to play each other in the final games to close out the season, wins will be at a premium.

Kapolei led 26-19 at the break but saw Campbell storm back in the second half, with a 16-9 advantage in the third that tied the score at 35-all heading into the fourth.

The Sabers dominated in the final period, getting eight points from Richard Windsor and six more from Jed Militante, part of a 25 point quarter for the home team. Windsor had 16 for the game and Militante 12. Along with Pontin, he trio also hit 9 of 12 free throws.

A trio of Hurricanes reached double figures, led by Caleb Mesa with 15. Jenisen Pave had 12 and Caleb Paakaula added 10 more in the loss. As a team the Hurricanes hit just 6 of 12 free throws.
