Mililani blanks Campbell to remain unbeaten in league play

Mililani won its seventh straight game with a clean sheet, notching a 3-0 win over Campbell to remain the lone unbeaten in the OIA West Friday night at John Kauinana Stadium.

It was a redemption win for the Trojans, who fell to the Sabers in a shootout for the OIA Division I crown a year ago.

"We were definitely excited to come into this match and we've been preparing for the past couple months, so we knew we had to come out hard in order to win this match and beat Campbell," said senior defender Kyla Okamoto. "So I think the win is just really rewarding for all of our hard work."

Okamoto scored a goal and assisted on another for the Trojans, who also got goals from Maya George and Kalena Yamashita.

The senior defender's contribution to the scoring column came on a pair of set pieces in the second half. After not generating a corner kick in the first 40 minutes, Mililani (7-0) got one in the 53rd minute.

Jas Cayetano delivered a perfect corner kick to the opposite side of the goal and Okamoto was able to head it in.

Eight minutes later there was a similar result, only this time Okamoto headed in Cayetano's corner kick to George in front of the goal, who also headed in her team-leading seventh goal of the year.

"We do work on volleys, and not all of them like headers, so it was good to see that it was a combination from one of our anchors on defense and Maya George, she's on a roll right now and she's our leading scorer and she finds a way to get it into the net," said first-year Mililani coach Brendyn Agbayani.

The Trojans have scored no less than three goals in every game this season while not conceding a goal defensively. Rylee Unebasami handled goalkeeper duties in the first half and Zelda Kaai-Montgomery did it in the second half while Maile Burnett is waiting in the wings.

Campbell dropped to 5-2-1, and its last win on the pitch was a 3-1 result back on Dec. 13 against Kapolei.

Mililani will face off with games against Divsion II opponents, at Radford then senior night against Aiea, before concluding the regular season on the road against the Hurricanes.
