Late surge helps University Lab pull away from Kapaa

University Lab improved to 4-1 in the preseason with a 51-42 win over Kapaa on Day 2 of the McKinley Black and Gold Classic held at Student Council Gymnasium.

Trey Ambrozich and Todd McKinney scored 14 points each to lead the way for Jr. Bows, who led 14-7 after the first quarter, but saw the Warriors rally to tie things up at 21-all at the intermission.

The contest remained tight through three quarters of play, with University Lab leading by just two heading into the final quarter of play, but the Jr. Bows outscored the Warriors 16-9 in the final frame to pull off a nine point win.

Kenna Quitan also hit double digits for the Jr. Bows, who also got eight points from Alika Ahu. University Lab's starting five accounted for 47 of the teams' 51.

Kapaa was led by AJ Johnson and Austin Green, who combined for 21 points and a trio of threes. Much like the Jr. Bows, the Warriors' first five scored all but two points in the contest.
