Castle, Seabury post sweeps, advance to Division II quarters

The Knights and Spartans are marching on.

Castle got 18 kills and four aces from Trystin Lum in a straight set win over Parker, 25-17, 25-18, 25-18, to advance to the quarterfinals of the New City Nissan/HHSAA Division II Girls Volleyball Championships held at Kalani High School Gymnasium.

The OIA champion Knights had more kills (43-26), blocks (11-6) and aces (9-2) than the Bulls, and hit for a .267 percentage, compared to just .123 for Parker.

Anuhea Aukai had nine kills and four blocks, Emily Robins eight kills and Brooke Silva seven kills and two blocks in the match, while setter Lehiwa Kapu had four blocks to go along with a match-high 37 assists.

The Bulls were led by Takarrah Presley, who had 11 kills and three blocks in the losing effort.

In the first game of the evening at Kalani saw Seabury Hall battle with Kohala to earn a hard-fought sweep, 25-19, 25-23, 28-26.

Milania Padilla led all hitters with 15 kills, and Delaney Tauese had four kills and two solo blocks for the Spartans, who hit just .144 in the match as a team. The Cowgirls hit just .124.

Kohala rallied for four straight points at the close of set two, with two aces by Liana Pine-Ramos helping to tie things up at 22-all before Seabury closed the set out with a Destiny Keomaka-Wood at 25-23.

Set three also came down to the wire as well, with the Cowgirls at set point at 26-25. Ultimately, the Spartans forced a deuce on a Clia Kafka, got to match point on Kohala hitting error and ended the match on a Padilla kill.

Pine-Ramos had nine kills, 11 digs, four assists and a block and Mahea Pang four kills, 18 assists, 11 digs and three aces for Kohala in the loss.
