Third-ranked Mililani needs overtime to squeeze past Farrington

Nakoa Kahana-Travis scored the game's opening score and added the game-winner in Mililani's hard fought 20-14 win over Farrington at Edward 'Skippa' Diaz Stadium at Kusunoki Field.

Mililani scored the first 14 points of the game, both in the second quarter, as Kekoa Koong replaced starter Dallas Carter and threw for two scores, one a 57 yard rainbow to Kahana-Travis and the other an 11 yard strike to Jonah Togafau-Tavui that capped an 11 play, 86 yard drive.

Beyond the big play to Kahana-Travis and the long scoring drive on the next series, Mililani has more than held in check, with no drive in the second half totaling more than 22 yards.

Farrington held Mililani to just three yards on the ground and 226 yards for the game, while its offense actually ended up outgaining the Trojans with 281 yards in total.

Chansen Smith had 86 yards rushing to lead all ball carriers, 80 of those coming on a keeper on the final play of the first half that kept the Govs within a single score at halftime. The 157 yards on the ground was the highest total surrendered by the Trojans' defense this season.

The Govs tied the score on its first drive of the third quarter, as Lauititi Liufau capped a 14 play drive that began at its own 22 with a six yard keeper in the wildcat.

Neither team found any success in the closing minutes of regulation, sending the game into overtime.

Farrington got the ball first and found itself moving backwards, ultimately turning the ball back over to Mililani after Smith was sacked on fourth down.

That led to the eventual game-clinching pass play from Carter, who returned back into the game from the second drive of the final quarter, to Kahana-Travis, who caught the ball at about the 10 yard line and raced down the left sideline and snuck inside the pylon to end it.

Mililani was led defensively by Chevy Robinson and Isaiah Iosefa, who each collected 12 total tackles. Robinson and Ezekiel Kalemete each had three tackles for loss, part of eight TFLs, five of them sacks for the Trojans on the evening.

Liufau was the Govs' leading tackler with eight, and as team Farrington had seven tackles for loss and also registered five sacks. Zion Vea had the game's lone interception.
