Moanalua sweeps Kahuku to remain lone OIA unbeaten

In a battle of previously unbeaten in the OIA, third-ranked Moanalua posted a convincing straight set road sweep of seventh-ranked Kahuku. The set scores were 25-14, 25-18 and 25-22.

Zaria Queen had a match-high 13 kills to go along with five digs and ace to pace Na Menehune, who also got six kills, five digs, two total blocks and 15 assists from Kalia Kalama-Bajet in the win.

An 8-0 scoring run midway through the first set proved fatal in set one for the Red Raiders, who lost the opener 25-14.

Same verse as the first in the second set, as Moanalua again used another eight point run, this was a 9-1 advantage, so get to set point at 24-15, before a mini-run by Kahuku made the margin a more respectable 25-18, as a Chloe Fukumitsu kill put an end to the rally.

Set number three was the most closely contested, as Kahuku never trailed by more than four points at any point in the set, and extended the match with its backs against the wall at 24-20, getting as close as 24-22 before Queen ended the match with her 13th kill.

Despite the sweep, statistically speaking the match was fairly even, with single-digit disparities in kills (35-31), assists (29-26) and digs (38-35), and even on aces (4 each) and total blocks (10 each).

Na Menehune did hit at a better clip at .217, compared to just .106 for the home team.
