No. 13 Moanalua builds early lead in win over Kailua

Isaac Harney factored into four touchdowns to lead No. 13 Moanalua to a 41-28 win over visiting Kailua Friday night. 

Na Menehune improved to 5-1 overall with the win and 3-0 in league play to remain in sole possession of first place in the Oahu Interscholastic Association Division I standings. 

Harney, a senior quarterback, threw for 201 yards on 15-of-26 passing. All three of his touchdown passes were to Jayce Bareng, who finished with eight receptions for 142 yards. The pair hookup up for scoring strikes of 18, 81 and 12 yards. 

Moanalua build a 28-0 lead by the 7:12 mark of the second quarter, but saw Kailua scored twice in the final 1:50 of the first half to cut it to a two-score game at the half. 

Kalino Judalena carried 21 times for a career-high 105 yards and scored on a 3-yard run that gave his team a 41-20 lead with 9:02 to play. 

Harney also ran for a 12-yard touchdown in the first quarter. 

Na Menehune got on the board with a special teams' score after Nakoa Orlando blocked a Kailua punt and also returned it 18 yards for a touchdown. 

Isaiah Keaunui-Demello threw for 214 yards and two touchdowns on 21-of-38 passing for the Surfriders. He also scored on a 2-yard run in the closing seconds. 

Romeo Ortiz scored on a 75-yard interception return for touchdown that got Kailua within 35-20 late in the third quarter. 

The Surfriders fell to 1-5 overall and 1-2 in league play. 

Kailua will have a bye next week before it visits Nanakuli on Oct. 5. 

Moanalua, which has won its last three games, will also have a week off before it visits Pearl City on Oct. 4.
