Kamehameha rides huge first quarter to upend Waipahu

Kamehameha scored 30 points in a wild first quarter en route to a 44-6 blowout of Waipahu at Kunuiakea Stadium Friday night.

Maddox Sharrer took the game's opening kickoff back the other way 88 yards to get things going for the Warriors, and that lead double a possession later when Jevin Bolos-Reyes found Ty Perkins on a 34 yard passing play to make it 14-0.

Special teams put two more points on the board via a blocked punt out of the end zone for a safety, and then added another touchdown on the ensuing free kick, as Nui Kaapana went 75 yards on the return to make it 23 points for the home team.

Bolos-Reyes to Perkins for the second time in the game closed out the first quarter, making it 30-0.

Waipahu finally got on the board in the late stages of the third, on a two yard pass play from David Vidinha to Titan Figueroa made it 30-6, but that would be it for the Marauders points-wise.

Kamehameha added two second half scores, one on Bolos-Reyes' third TD toss of the evening, this one 27 yards to Hazyn Botelho and the final score a five yard keeper from reserve QB Pono Kahaulelio.

Bolos-Reyes completed 8 of 11 passes for 104 yards and the three scores, and Nainoa Melchor led the Warriors' rushing attack with 18 carries for 71 yards. No receiever had more than three catches and only Perkins broke the 50 yard mark with 2 receptions for 52.

Waipahu's Tristan Pacheco had 24 carries for 102, both game-highs, in the loss.
