Kaiser closes out regular season with win over rival Kalani

Easton Yoshino closed out Kaiser's regular season with a third straight win, passing for 328 yards and four touchdowns in a 33-16 win over rival Kalani.

Junior Keagan Lime caught six passes for 101 yards and two scores and sophomore Dillon Reis rushed for 94 yards and another score to send the Cougars' seniors out in style, though the postseason still awaits for Kaiser, who will enter the upcoming OIA Division II playoffs as the third seed.

Kalani opened up the game's scoring with a 47 yard field goal by Kalekona Spencer at the 7:55 mark of the opening quarter, but the home team answered back with a scoring connection between Yoshino and Lime that made the score 7-3 at 3:35 mark of the first.

From there the Cougars scored 19 unanswered points, the first a pass from Yoshino to Donovan Reis that made it 13-3 at the half, then a 51 yard rumble by Dillon Reis to make it 20-3 at the 8:15 mark, and finally a 61 yard connection from Yoshino to Lime to make it a comfortable 26-3 lead heading into the final quarter of play.

The Falcons rallied in the fourth, with a pair of Kynan McCartney tosses, one to Christopher Holt from 16 yards and the other an 11 yard connection with Silas Tina-Soberano that cut the margin to 26-16 with 2:29 left in the contest.

Kaiser put any hopes of a comeback away on Yoshino's fourth scoring pass of the evening, this one a 34 yard hook up with Jesse Shinagawa that made the score 33-16.

Defensively, Tea Nuuhiwa-Santos had eight total tackles and added a sack and a pass breakup, Blaze Kodama had seven solo tackles and two breakups and Nalu Nuuhiwa-Santos seven total tackles, three sacks and a breakup of his own to lead the Cougars.

Kalani's Aiden Trinidad had a game-high 11 tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss, with Duke Corso adding two interceptions, a tackle for loss and a pass breakup in defeat.
