No. 15 Farrington rides balanced attack to overwhelm Waialua

No. 15 Farrington showcased its offensive prowess Thursday night.

Quarterback Marcus "MJ" Moreno passed for 200 yards and two touchdowns in the first half and the running game churned out 250 yards as the Governors rolled past visiting Waialua, 42-7, at Skippa Diaz Stadium in both teams' season opener.

Moreno misfired on his first pass attempt of the game, but settled down to complete six straight passes with his first completion going for a 59-yard TD to Chansen Smith in the left seam.

Running back Zechariah Molitau was the leading rusher for the Govs with 103 yards and a 13-yard TD on just nine carries. He also scored on a 28-yard screen pass and caught a 2-point conversion to give Farrington a 21-0 lead with 1:56 remaining in the second quarter.

Using an uptempo offense mixed with some RPO plays, Waialua was able to put points on the board after going down three scores. Senior QB Tyson Apau's ability to hit receivers over the middle and extend plays in the pocket helped the Bulldogs march down the field as they scored on a 2-yard pass to Jayvie Arellano with 73 seconds to go before halftime.

However, the Governors quickly regained the momentum as Kamakana Tisalona-Perez took the ensuing kickoff 84 yards to the house to give Farrington a 28-7 lead at the break.

Farrington added two early scores in the third quarter on TD runs by Ikaika Kuaana-Lacno and Kingston Miles to induce the running clock mercy rule.

Apau finished with 132 yards passing and was the Bulldogs' leading rusher with 23 net yards. James Zara was Apau's big-play receiver with four catches for 73 yards while Ryz Miranda Perreira was sure-handed with six grabs for 51 yards.
