Roosevelt bounces back to throttle Kailua

Kayman Lewis threw for four touchdowns as Roosevelt earned its first win of the year with a 38-7 victory over visiting Kailua at Ticky Vasconcellos Stadium Friday night.

The Rough Riders (1-2) dropped their season opener to Castle, 18-14, and were coming off a 14-13 loss to Aiea before their convincing win.

The Surfriders fell to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in the Oahu Interscholastic Association Division I standings.

Lewis, who threw four interceptions in both of the team's losses, completed 18 of 24 passes for 278 yards with no picks.

George Matsunaga caught Lewis' first scoring strike from 31 yards out to help the Rough Riders take a 17-0 lead at the break.

Jayden Gaopoa-Montgomery hauled in a 65-yard score early in the third quarter to extend Roosevelt's lead while Kamuela Kaaihue notched two fourth quarter TD receptions to put the game out of reach for Kailua.

Blazen Lono Wong caught a 2-yard TD pass from Kahiapo McKeague with 6:15 to play in the third period for the Surfriders' lone score of the game.

Porter Ellis kicked a 30-yard field goal for Roosevelt's first points of the game and Silas Kekahuna had a 6-yard scoring run to help the Rough Riders take a 10-0 lead after the first stanza.

Kailua used three different quarterbacks that combined for four interceptions.
