Strong start powers Waiakea over Lahainaluna

Waiakea outscored Lahainaluna by 10 in the opening quarter and never looked back in its 37-26 win Thursday night at Moanalua in the quarterfinals of the Snapple Division I Girls Basketball Championships.

The Warriors will meed defending champion and top-seeded Iolani Friday in a 7 p.m. semifinal at Neal S. Blaisdell Arena.

Kelsie Imai scored 13 points with five rebounds to lead Waiakea in the win over the third-seeded Lunas.

Leading Lahainaluna in the loss was Taylor Eldredge with a double-double of 14 points and 10 boards.
