Na Menehune run through Trojans to reach OIA semifinals

MILILANI — Three Moanalua starters posted double digits in scoring to propel the Oahu Interscholastic Association third-seeded team out of the East past Mililani, 73-48, Wednesday night on the Trojans' home court.

DiAeris McRaven led with 19 points with Geremy Robinson and Nainoa Kauhola not far behind with 16 and 12 points, respectively. All of Kauhola's points came on field goals from beyond the arc.

Robinson led the way early putting up eight points to help Moanalua to a narrow two-point lead after the first quarter before McRaven picked it up and scored 17 points the rest of the way.

Bryant Abalos and Elijah McGruder also helped Na Menehune run away by chipping in a combined 14 second-half points off the bench.

The Trojans were led by Ethan Rudometkin's 12 points and Kanoa Gibson's total of 10.

Mililani went just 4 of 13 from the field in the second quarter and 3 of 14 in the final period, which was when Moanalua was able to extend its lead further. The home team also finished 8 for 24 from the charity stripe.

With the win, Moanalua secured a spot in the Snapple/HHSAA Division I Boys Basketball State Championships in two weeks, but the defending OIA champion will move on to take on East top seed Kalaheo next Monday, 5 p.m. at McKinley High School.

That same night, Mililani will have a chance to secure a spot in the state tournament when they play Kapolei in the fifth place semifinal.

OIA Championship games are slated for Wednesday, Feb. 12 at McKinley.
