Back in the win column.

Freshman Brooke Bailey's goal in the 39th minute helped power second-ranked Punahou over No. 6 Aiea, 1-0, at Alexander Field Monday afternoon in the opening round of the Queen's Medical Center Division I Girls Soccer Championships.

The Buffanblu (8-0-3) advance to meet third-seeded Kekaulike Thursday in a 3 p.m. quarterfinal in the main stadium of the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex.

It was Punahou's first win since a 7-0 win over PAC-5 on Jan. 18. The Buffanblu ended ILH play with a 1-1 tie to Kamehameha and a 2-2 tie to Iolani.

The lone score of the match came after Allison Little fired a shot from the left side of the field. Little's shot went into heavy traffic, but Bailey was there for the rebound to put the ball away.

Na Alii's best scoring opportunity came in the opening minute of the second half. Aiea's Sheyliene Patolo, who entered the contest with 23 goals on the season, found a crease in the Punahou backline and put pressure on keeper Tiani Wayton to play the ball. Wayton mishandled the ball which allowed Aiea's Teani Sunset Bento a chance to fire a shot, but it was wide left.

Aiea's season ends with a 10-4-1 record.
