Hilo pulls away from Kailua to reach final four

Hilo is in the final four for the first time since 2012.

The third-seeded Vikings scored six unanswered runs to overtake Kailua, 8-4, Thursday afternoon at Iron Maehara Stadium in the quarterfinals of the Wally Yonamine Foundation Division I Baseball Championships.

Hilo advances to face second-seeded Punahou in a 4:00 p.m. semifinal.

Ocean Gabonia pitched a complete game in the win, scattering five hits with five strikeouts. He also drove in three runs to power the Vikings, who jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first inning.
