Raiders rally past Owls in overtime

KAPALAMA HEIGHTS — When these two squads met up earlier in the season, the end results were close so there was no reason to believe this one wouldn't go down to the wire either.

With a two-goal deficit at halftime, Iolani posted five-consecutive goals to rally past Mid-Pacific in overtime, 8-6, at the Kamehameha Schools Kapalama Kalaniopuu Aquatic Center in both teams' penultimate match of the Interscholastic League of Honolulu Division I first round.

May Kamaka netted a hat trick and scored in each of the two overtime periods to help the Raiders notch their second win of the season to improve to 2-6. Marianna Fong also scored thrice and got Iolani on the board first.

Peyton Ku scored her lone goal of the game in the first period to tie it up heading into the second quarter when the Owls jumped out to a 4-1 lead on goals from Kaley Yap and Angie Shaw, who both finished with a pair of scores.

After Mid-Pacific (1-7) extended its lead to 5-2 early in the second half, Iolani scored five unanswered times through the first overtime period to run away with the victory.

Both teams first met at the end of February with the Owls winning 6-4. Iolani evened the series with a 4-3 win at their second matchup in mid-March.

Iolani will finish with Punahou (8-0) and Mid-Pacific will take on Kamehameha (5-3) in a doubleheader on Thursday at Punahou.

The ILH second round single elimination tournament will take place next week at Iolani.
