Mules, Menes victorious in season opener

WAIPIO — Leilehua and Moanalua got the Oahu Interscholastic Association regular season off to a good start Wednesday afternoon with wins against Pearl City and Waialua, respectively, at the Mark K. Takai Veterans Memorial Aquatic Center.

Kaya Takashige tallied five goals as the Mules downed the Chargers, 13-3. Taylor Dinsmore-Nassar was close behind with four scores while Kobie Pasoquen-Rabago netted a pair. Brina Peters and Emily Martinez each had a score as well.

Six different players scored for Moanalua as Na Menehune bricked the Bulldogs, 9-1. Madison Komatsu led with three goals followed by Koko Butcher's two scores. Isabella McRae, Shirfei Tay, Marrisa Halim and Emily Quach each found the back of the net as well.

Both winning teams snagged the opening sprints to quickly score as they never looked back.

In other Wednesday OIA action, Kaiser defeated Waipahu, 12-2, and Kailua torched Castle, 21-4. Kalani and Kalaheo also picked up wins via forfeit from McKinley and Farrington, respectively.

The Mules and Na Menehune will swap opponents for their next matchups Saturday at Kaimuki High School.
