Waimea, HBA to meet in Division II semis

The night cap of the Snapple/HHSAA Division II Girls Basketball Championships semifinals will feature the best team from Kauai and the best team from the ILH.

Waimea and top-seeded Hawaii Baptist cruised to dominant victories in the quarterfinals to set up Friday's 7:30 p.m. semifinal at Damien's Bishop Scanlan Gymnasium.

In Thursday's quarterfinals the Menehunes took care of fourth-seeded Hawaii Prep, 53-14, and the Eagles smashed Farrington in a 50-29 win.

Kaye Serapio had 21 points and 16 rebounds with eight steals and Kierstin Gummerus added 20 points on four made 3-pointers to lead Waimea.

Kyley Nakagawa recorded 17 points with five steals and Sasha Phillip had 14 points and seven boards to power HBA.
