No. 1 Warriors, No. 8 Sabers to play for title

ScoringLive photo illustrationWAIPAHU — It will be the top seed against the unheralded when Kamehameha takes on Campbell for the championship of The Queen's Medical Center/HHSAA Division I girls soccer tournament 7 p.m. Saturday at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex Main Stadium.
The Warriors (13-2) will be seeking their first crown since 2014 and ninth overall against the Sabers (12-4-1), who will be playing in their first title game. Kamehameha, No. 1 in the Hawaiian Electric/ScoringLive Power Rankings, and No. 8 Campbell each enters with a five-game win streak.
Kamehameha advanced to the title game in dominating fashion, dumping on fourth-seeded Kekaulike, 6-0, in Friday night's semifinal. It was the widest margin of victory in a D1 semifinal, as well as in the pre-D2 era, since Castle beat Hawaii Prep, 7-0, in the inaugural state tournament in 1982.
Campbell reached the final by knocking off third-seeded Konawaena, 3-0, in the other semifinal. The Sabers have progressively improved scoring-wise in the tournament. They beat Kamehameha-Maui, 1-0, in Monday's regional first round and defeated second-seeded Aiea, 2-0, in the quarterfinals. In their five-win match streak, the Sabers have not allowed a goal.
Campbell, which finished fifth in the Oahu Interscholastic Association West and fifth in the OIA Playoffs, is the second-lowest placed OIA team to reach the final. Aiea was the OIA's sixth-place team when it lost to Kamehameha, 4-0, in the state title game in 2014.
"These girls have been focused," Campbell coach James Curran said. "They've been working hard, putting extra work in on weekends. I feel good, but I feel we've got some work to do tomorrow."
