KAPIOLANI — Iolani won its second straight Ann Kang Invitational Volleyball Tournament with a sweep of Buchanan (Clovis, California) at Lower Gymnasium Saturday afternoon. Set scores were 25-17, 25-17.
The three day preseason tournament first started in 1989 and the Raiders' win was only the second time they've won, adding to the list of 13 Hawaii teams that have come away as tournament champions.
This year's 16-team slate featured: Harvard-Westlake (California), Glen Rose (Texas), Mira Costa (California), Village Christian (California), Boswell (Texas), Newport Harbor (California), Edison (California), Buchanan (California), Sierra Canyon (California), Sage Hill (California), Hawaii Baptist, Moanalua, Iolani, Damien, Kapolei and King Kekaulike.

The Raiders went 7-0 in pool play with wins over King Kekaulike, Damien, Buchanan, Kapolei, Sage Hill, Sierra Canyon and Edison in "Pool B." In the semifinals, they defeated Mira Costa in straight sets (25-14, 25-18) to reach the final in a rematch against Buchanan.
Iolani is coming off a thrid-straight HHSAA Division I Volleyball State Championship game appearance after falling to Kamehameha in last year's title game.
They'll begin Interscholastic League of Honolulu regular season play Sept. 1 against Punahou.
