SALT LAKE — Moanalua connected for 11 hits from nine different batters as it came out victorious in shut-out fashion over Roosevelt, 9-0, Wednesday afternoon in an Oahu Interscholastic Association East Division matchup at Moanalua High School.

Cade Fernandez led Na Menehune with two RBIs on a single in the second inning to bring Christian Capinia home for Moanalua's first score, and a groundout that scored Tyler Nakata for their seventh run as a part of a six-run third inning. Andrew Oasay got that rally going with a lead-off home run to right field.

Fernandez, Capinia and Nakata also composed of a three-armed, two-hit shutout outing in the victory. Fernandez got the start and went 2 1/3 innings before Capinia went 2 and 2/3 innings with Nakata closing out the final two frames.

Capinia recorded the win since Fernandez did not go at least three innings. Capinia gave up the two hits on back-to-back singles in the top of the fifth, but he also struck out five batters.

Noah Nakamura recorded the loss for the Rough Riders, giving up five hits and seven runs but only four of them earned.

Roosevelt falls to 2-4 and hosts Kalani (4-2) at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

Moanalua improves to 4-2 and is now tied with the Falcons for second place in the OIA East only behind Kailua (5-1), whom Na Menehune visit on Saturday also at 11 a.m.
