Warriors, Bulldogs are No. 1 seeds in state tourney

Kamehameha (10-2) is the No. 1 seed in the New City Nissan/HHSAA Division I girls volleyball bracket, which was released Thursday afternoon.

Oahu Interscholastic Association champion Moanalua (14-0) is seeded second with Maui Interscholastic League winner Kamehameha-Maui (14-1) and Big Island Interscholastic Federation champ Waiakea (16-2) slotted at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively.

First round play will begin Monday, Oct. 23, with the league runner-ups hosting all matches in a regional format.

Two OIA teams will travel off-island to start tourney play. Mililani (11-2) will travel to Makawao, Maui to take on MIL runner-up King Kekaulike (9-6) while Kahuku (10-5) will take on Hilo (16-2) in a 4 p.m. contest.

OIA runner-up Kapolei (12-1) will host Farrington (10-5) on Monday while ILH second-place finisher and defending state champion Iolani (6-7) will host Waianae (10-4).

The championship match will be Saturday evening at 7 p.m. in the Neal Blaisdell Center Arena.

In the Division II bracket, the defending state champion Le Jardin Bulldogs (13-1) are the top seed are winning their first ILH title this season.

Undefeated MIL champion Seabury Hall (14-0) is seeded No. 2. BIIF champ Konawaena (9-9) has the third seed and OIA winner Nanakuli (6-6) has the fourth seed.

First round play beings Wednesday, Oct. 25 with matches hosted at Kaimuki High School and Saint Francis School.

Teams also qualified for the tournament are: Pearl City (OIA 2), Hawaii Baptist (ILH 2), Damien (ILH 3), Sacred Hearts (ILH 4), Hawaii Prep (BIIF 2), Kohala (BIIF 3), Hana (MIL 2) and Waimea (KIF).

The title match will be Saturday evening at 5 p.m. in the Neal Blaisdell Center Arena.
