Campbell All-Hawaii outfielder and OIA West Player of the Year Nicholas Sampson confirmed he has verbally committed to play baseball at Santa Clara.

Team California, his travel team, originally made the announcement on its website.

Two Mid-Pacific Institute players on Team California also made verbal committments.

Catcher Matt Erickson also selected Santa Clara. Owls' infielder Wyatt Young has chosen Pepperdine. Owls' coach Dunn Muramaru confirmed those committments.

All of the three players are seniors.

Also, former MPI pitcher Carter Rustad, a junior, verbally committed to San Diego. However, he has since moved to the Mainland, Muramaru said.

Sampson, who also pitches, said he was recruited as an outfielder.
