Paul Harris rushed for 179 yards and Ikaika Woolsey threw a pair of touchdown passes, but it was another case of too little, too late for the University of Hawaii football team Saturday night.

Kenny Potter threw three touchdown passes and ran in two other scores to lead visiting San Jose State to a 42-23 rout of Hawaii before a record-low Aloha Stadium crowd of 11,625 fans.

The loss was the ninth straight for the Rainbow Warriors, who are now 2-10 overall and 0-8 in the Mountain West Conference.

Hawaii finished with 415 yards of total offense, but was unable to overcome a 35-0 halftime deficit.

Potter, a junior quarterback, completed 23 of his 32 pass attempts for 312 yards without an interception. He threw touchdown passes of 7 and 36 yards, to Tim Crawley and Hansell Wilson, respectively, in the first quarter and hooked up with Brad Kuh on a 1-yard score in the second. He also found the end zone on a pair of 9-yard runs — all of it in the first half.

San Jose State scored on all five of its first-half possessions and was 5 for 5 on red zone opportunities for the game.

Running back Tyler Ervin rushed for 114 yards on 20 carries, including a 1-yard score midway through the third quarter and also caught six passes for 62 yards.

The Spartans were 10-of-15 on third downs, including 7 for 7 in the first half. They had 344 of their 509 yards of total offense by halftime.

Hawaii got on the board early in the third quarter when Harris scampered for a 27-yard touchdown run. Woolsey threw a 77-yard touchdown pass to Saint Louis School-alum Devan Stubblefield later in the quarter and found Makoa Camanse-Stevens, a Kamehameha graduate, for a 5-yard scoring strike in the closing seconds.

It was the third consecutive game that Harris went over 100 rushing yards and his fifth time achieving the mark this season, the most for a Hawaii player since Travis Sims did it nine times in 1992. Harris now has 966 rushing yards on the year.

San Jose State, which improved to 5-6 (4-3 Mountain West) with the win, now leads the all-time series against Hawaii, 19-18-1.

The Rainbow Warriors close out the season at home against Louisiana-Monroe next Saturday.
